Working Together

Some time ago Age Concern and Help the Aged merged into a single unit, Age UK. The thinking was that doing so would cut out duplication of services and reduce costs, thereby providing more money for their common aim. Could the same could apply to cancer related organisations?

For example Beating Bowel Cancer and Bowel Cancer UK both have the aim of raising awareness and providing support of a particular type of cancer, whereas  the likes of Macmillan provide support for all types. I wonder what might be gained if they combined their efforts and experience into one major outfit. They surely must be doing the same as each other in many areas, so would a merger lead to making more money available to meet their aims by cutting down on overheads and work duplication?

Let me make it very clear that this is in no way a criticism of any of these wonderful organisations, but simply a thought on how their hard earned cash might be made to stretch a little further to provide bigger "front line" funds and better achieve their common goal.
