A problem shared . . . .

Whenever the TV is on there seems to be some reference to cancer. Apart from the adverts from the various cancer charities, with which I have no problem, it seems that hardly a day passes without something cropping up. My wife enjoys watching some of the soaps so invariably I catch parts of them, and I can recall cancer related themes in Eastenders and Coronation Street and Holby, and a number of other dramas. They've even had a dog dying from this dreaded disease!

Of course it was probably no different in the days before I was diagnosed, but now I get really irritated at every reference and try to find something to take me away from it. So why do I find it so easy to talk about it on here and on Twitter?

I think it's because it's more personal on the social networks. I can relate to my fellow cancer Twitterers. I realise that I'll probably never meet the wonderful people I'm in contact with, yet I feel as if I know them well. It helps to share our thoughts. It helps to know there are people out there who know what I'm going through and can give advice and support. At the risk of sounding selfish, I would add that it helps me to put my problems into perspective when I see the awful problems that some of my internet friends have and the traumas they are going through.

There's an old saying that a problem shared is a problem halved. If only it were that easy! However a problem shared does help, and I will continue to Twitter until I can tweet no more,  and I hope my on line friends do the same.
